Earlier this year, we were thrilled to take part in the 2023 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum, proudly hosted in Brisbane. An award-winning event with a history of more than 25 years, the Summit convenes city thinkers, makers, and trailblazers to propel urban capability and best practices while connecting government and business to each other.
This year’s Summit was all about “Shaping Cities for our Future” and welcomed more than 1,100 delegates from a record-breaking 171 cities, including 118 Mayors and Deputy Mayors. The APCS offers an unparalleled opportunity for global connections to be forged between city and business leaders alike. We are incredibly grateful to have taken part in this opportunity to be at the forefront of an innovative conversation about the future of cities.
As part of a Deep Dive Session focussed on “Cities of Legacy: Creating Events for Prosperity and Longevity”, Mark, our Managing Director, spoke about the cultural significance of markets in major emerging cities and realising the value of space in connecting people and commerce. He touched on our ‘market romance’ philosophy and the power of markets in supporting local businesses, bringing people together, and adding value to urban centres. Space will continue to be a remarkably valuable commodity as cities rethink how residents, visitors, and businesses interact in regional towns and densely populated centres.
Chaired by Katherine Perez from the Los Angeles Office of Arup, the session featured several distinguished speakers:
Councillor Krista Adams, Deputy Mayor Brisbane City Council
Rebecca Arnaud, Manager, Legacy and Games Planning Brisbane City Council
James Pearce, Senior Principal at Populous
Jane Lomax-Smith, Lord Mayor, City of Adelaide
Michael Rumbold, Movement Strategies Australia Leader, GHD
This was such a fantastic opportunity to hear from innovative thinkers and share exciting ideas about the endless possibilities for the future of cities. We are beyond grateful to have taken part. A huge thank you to APCS for having us, we’re looking forward to next year’s event!
